Full Form of ICC
ICC stands for the International Cricket Council, the global governing body of cricket. The ICC was founded in 1909 as the Imperial Cricket Conference, and is responsible for organizing, developing and directing international cricket matches.
The ICC is made up of 10 full members, plus 34 associate and affiliate members from around the world. Its main headquarters are located in Dubai, with regional offices in India, Pakistan and Australia. The ICC has a total of three divisions: The Executive Board (EB), which is responsible for the overall direction of international cricket; the World Cup Committee (WCC), which organizes the World Cup events; and the Finance & Administrative Division (F&AD), which handles day-to-day operations and finances.
The ICC is led by its President and Chairman, who are elected on a four-year term. The current President is Shashank Manohar from India, while Imran Khwaja from Singapore serves as Chairman. Under them are four Vice Presidents – one each from Bangladesh, England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), New Zealand Cricket (NZC) and West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). Besides them, there are five other members on the Executive Board – one each from Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ), African Union of Cricket Associations (AUCUCA), South Asian Federation of Cricket Associations (SAFCA) and United Arab Emirates Cricket Association (UAE CA).
In addition to organizing international cricket tournaments like the World Cup or Champions Trophy, the ICC also regulates major aspects of international cricket such as player eligibility rules, anti-corruption policies, playing conditions etc. It also ensures that all participating teams adhere to these regulations so that fair play can be maintained in all matches. Furthermore, it provides financial assistance to its members through grants or loans to help promote their respective cricket programs.
Besides developing and maintaining international regulations for cricketing activities across different countries, another important role played by ICC is supporting various developmental activities related to cricket. In recent years it has started initiatives like ‘Chance To Shine’ which promotes grassroots development in poorer countries by providing equipment and training resources to children who cannot afford them otherwise. This kind of support has helped many young cricketers make a name for themselves in their respective countries despite limited resources at their disposal.
Overall there is no doubt that International Cricket Council plays an extremely important role when it comes to developing both competitive cricketing environment as well as promoting grass root development amongst aspiring cricketers across different nations worldwide.
