Those qualified in this stage are eligible for appearing in Mains Exam which comprises nine papers out of which two papers are qualifying papers while seven papers are counted towards merit ranking. Successful candidates from Mains Exam qualify for Personality Test which carries 275 marks out of total 2025 marks awarded by UPSC for entire CSE process.

In addition to these examinations, UPSC conducts other recruitment processes such as direct recruitment by interview or selection through departmental tests, special recruitment drives like Sports Quota / Physically Handicapped Quota / Women Quota etc., medical examination and physical standard tests etc., wherever applicable.
