The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is a national body for quality assurance in the field of higher education in India. It was established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1994 to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in India. NAAC is an autonomous body, governed by a council comprising eminent educationists, policy makers, academics, and administrators from across the country.

The primary objective of NAAC is to assess the quality of education being imparted in higher educational institutions in India. It also aims to provide feedback on areas where improvements are needed in order to ensure that students receive high-quality education. Based on their accreditation scores awarded to institutes after assessment process , NAAC provides them with an A+ grade indicating very good performance if they score above 3.51 points; A grade indicating good performance if they score between 3.26 – 3.50 points; B grade indicating satisfactory performance if they score between 3 – 3 .25 points ; C grade indicating adequate performance if they score between 2 .76 – 2 .99 points; D grade indicating less than satisfactory performance if they score below 2 .75 points . Institutions with an A+ or A grade are considered as those having excellent standards while those having B or C grades are considered as having good standards but need improvement while those having D grade are considered as needing substantial improvement before being eligible for another round of assessment by NAAC within three years period..
