The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is an autonomous organization set up by the Government of India in 1961 to assist and advise the Central and State Governments on academic matters related to school education.

The main objectives of NCERT are to promote, undertake, and coordinate research in areas related to school education; develop curricula for school-level education; provide training for teachers, teacher educators, administrators and other personnel involved in the process of school education; promote innovations in educational administration especially at the primary and secondary levels; prepare instructional material that is appropriate for all students; develop skills through experimentation and innovative approaches; organize seminars, workshops, conferences, etc., on issues pertaining to school education; collaborate with national as well as international institutions working in the field of educational research and development.

NCERT mainly focuses on providing quality education from elementary level up to higher secondary level. It provides various services like curriculum development, teacher training programs, text book publication & distribution, distance learning programs, examinations & scholarship programs etc. The aim of NCERT is to provide basic quality education which is accessible & affordable to all.

NCERT has established a network of Centres throughout India for the purpose of conducting research activities related to educational development.
