Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is an apex body representing the interests of India’s business and industry. It was established in 1927, making it one of the oldest and largest business organizations in India.
FICCI is a non-government, not-for-profit organization that serves as a platform for economic policy dialogue between the government and industry, to promote trade and investments in India. It also acts as a catalyst for policy initiatives by bringing together various stakeholders from both public and private sectors. In addition, FICCI works with international organizations such as World Bank, OECD, WTO, UNCTAD, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), etc., to promote global economic integration of Indian businesses.
FICCI works closely with the Government of India on issues related to fiscal policies, taxation reforms, industrial promotion policies, financial sector reforms and foreign direct investments (FDI). It also provides inputs to the government on preparing suitable legal frameworks for promoting ease of doing business in India. Furthermore, FICCI has been actively involved in formulating plans for infrastructure development across various sectors such as roads, ports & airports etc.
Apart from its work with the Government of India, FICCI also engages with other international bodies such as G20 countries to formulate international trade policies which are beneficial to Indian businesses. It also regularly interacts with multilateral institutions like IMF & World Bank to ensure that their policies are well aligned with Indian needs.
FICCI provides numerous services to its members including providing guidance on regulatory matters; setting up networks between members; conducting research studies & surveys; organizing conferences & seminars; providing technical assistance; facilitating access to finance; arranging export promotion services; offering advisory services on corporate governance & investor relations; conducting training programmes; developing standards & codes of conduct etc.
In order to strengthen its role within the Indian economy while simultaneously enhancing its international presence among global business leaders & investors FICCI has set up several committees at both national & regional level which undertake specific tasks related to specific industries or sectors such as agro-industries committee; auto components committee etc.. These committees provide valuable insights into how best these industries can be promoted & advanced in order to create wealth for our nation.
Thus we can see that FICCI plays an important role in fostering economic growth through mutual understanding between different stakeholders at national & international levels. Furthermore its initiatives have resulted in improved access to capital markets through better use of technology while at the same time promoting good corporate governance practices amongst members so as to enable them compete effectively within global markets thus contributing significantly towards our nation’s overall development goals .
