Full Form of CGL
CGL in Education stands for Combined Graduate Level. This is an exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for the recruitment of graduates for various Group B and Group C posts in various ministries, departments and organizations of the Government of India.
The Combined Graduate Level Exam (CGL) is a national level competitive examination that is conducted annually by the SSC. The exam is held to select eligible candidates for various positions such as Tax Assistant, Inspector of Income Tax, Statistical Investigator Gr II, Auditor, Accountant etc.
In order to be eligible to apply for CGL examination, a candidate must have completed at least a bachelor’s degree from any recognized university or institute in India or abroad. Candidates who have passed class 12th can also apply but they should have completed their graduation before appearing in the CGL exam.
The CGL exam consists of three stages – Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3. The tier 1 stage has two papers – Paper I and Paper II. Paper I tests the candidate’s knowledge on General Intelligence & Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English Comprehension and General Awareness while Paper II is only applicable to those who are applying for Statistical Investigator Gr II post which tests their knowledge on Statistics subjects like Data Interpretation and Analysis etc.
Tier 2 stage consists of four papers – Paper I (Quantitative Abilities), Paper II (English Language & Comprehension), Paper III (Statistics) and Paper IV (General Studies). Each paper carries 200 marks with 2 hours duration for each paper.
The final stage is Tier 3 which consists of descriptive type written test which tests the writing skills of the candidate in both Hindi & English languages. It carries 100 marks with one hour duration time limit per language.
Once all these three stages are completed successfully then the selected candidates will be called for Document Verification process followed by Medical Test & Personality Test before they are finally recruited by SSC into different government departments/organizations based on their performance in all these processes & exams combined together.
