Full Form of CRY
The full form of CRY in the context of an organization is ‘Child Rights and You.’ CRY is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) based in India that works for the rights, protection and participation of children. The organization was founded in 1979 by Rippan Kapur, an Indian social worker, who was deeply moved by the plight of street children in Bombay.
CRY works to empower underprivileged children across India, who are often neglected and deprived of their basic rights such as access to education, healthcare, nutrition etc. The organization believes that it is only through the collective effort of all stakeholders that these issues can be addressed and resolved effectively.
CRY partners with over 700 grassroots organizations spread across 23 states in India to ensure that all vulnerable children – regardless of gender, caste or religion – have access to their fundamental rights. The organization provides financial aid to local NGOs involved in child welfare activities and also promotes child-centric initiatives such as health camps and educational programmes. It also conducts extensive research on child rights issues and campaigns for policy reforms to ensure the safety and well-being of the most vulnerable sections of society.
At present, CRY has established Regional Resource Centres (RRCs) across five zones in India for better outreach among stakeholders at grassroots level. Further, it has initiated several innovative projects like ‘Sneha Sangham’ which aims at building a supportive community for children facing abuse or neglect; ‘Khel Khel Mein’ which encourages physical activity among young kids; ‘Chetna’ which focuses on improving quality education; ‘Udaan’ which promotes girl empowerment; ‘My Health My Right’ which ensures easy access to healthcare facilities etc.
By striving towards ensuring better implementation of existing laws relating to child rights in India, CRY hopes to create an enabling environment where each and every child can reach his/her fullest potential without any fear or discrimination whatsoever. To this end, the organization seeks generous contributions from individuals as well as corporate entities so that it can continue its mission unabatedly towards making a safe world for our future generations!
